Vertical growing

Our new garden is teensy but full of sunlight, unlike the old one which was ginormous but in full shade.

Mr M loves to grow vegetables so we're trying our hand at vertical growing. The grander plan is to get an allotment, but with so much work to do to the house we don't have the time to dedicate to a plot currently. We were toying with some window troughs when we stumbled across this brilliant tiered contraption at Garsons.
They only had one in stock as a trial and I am so pleased I spotted it.  Mr M gave it the summerhouse treatment to avoid that ghastly bright orange look and planted it up with some red oak leaf lettuce plug plants and a mixture of radish and lettuce seeds. We then happened to go to Wisley and spied a larger display only version and felt very smug indeed. Very impressed with our purchase. We've been dining out on homegrown salad for the last week or so. You just can't beat the taste of fresh, crunchy leaves.

We'll talk about slugs and ants on another occasion. Red ants. In the lawn at the back. And cockchafers in the lawn at the front. Oh joy. We thought someone was trying to break in with the latter. They are HUGE!

  2. That's a great idea, and one I could cope with as a clueless gardener!
